Assesment of speech function

Speech impairments may include problems with speech fluency and rhythm, articulation and coordination of speech due to brain damage (e.g. stuttering, dysarthria or speech apraxia), hearing loss or developmental disorders. The assessment of speech functions (including initial screening to determine the need for comprehensive assessment) uses observation, interviewing, standardized self-reported questionnaires or standardized tests to determine the presence and/or severity of impairments in speech functions, ascertain their impact on functioning, and inform care planning, including the need for referral or follow-up.
